With the new ~1.1GB RIFT PTS Update comes a new batch of datamining by TehFrank! If you want to check out what’s up for regular players on the PTS, click here. Below you can find the datamined files for this update:
Summary:
- 3.0 Architecture Models – Cosmic Mountain, Goboro Reef Cave, Atragarian Well Barnacle Homes/etc
- 3.0 Creature Models – A Colossus, Griffon, Roc, Cannons and more.
- Other Models – Another 2Handed Staff Concept Art Winner Model, Akvan Quest Item, Nightmare Rift/etc.
- Interesting 3.0 Skins
- Interesting 3.0 Datafiles
3.0 Architecture Models
There’s quite a few new models on top of ones previously datamined.
Cosmic Mountain Models
- Cosmic Mountain Model 1
- Cosmic Mountain Model 2
- Cosmic Mountain Model 3
- Cosmic Mountain Model 4
First up, some more Cosmic Mountain (assumed to be the Mount Sharax Raid) models. More spirally ice sculptures as well as some platforms.
- The first image shows a platform (probably boss fight) with a passage leading to the inside of the mountain (or outside, depending on perspective).
- The second image is assumed to be decoration, showing the top of the Cosmic Mountain and shown in the Izbithu Concept Art.
- The third image is a collection of other platforms. The left image seems to show an entrance in the bottom-right.
- The fourth image shows another platform and likely a boss fight. There’s some interesting information in the file itself including a “N_TG_CM_alchemy_array_01_c.dds” and a “rune_glow_m” which perhaps hints at the mechanics of the fight.
Goboro Reef Cave Models
- Goboro Reef Cave Model 1
- Goboro Reef Cave Model 2
Just some Goboro Reef Cave models. There’s ‘boss room’ and other file-names so perhaps this is another dungeon. It doesn’t seem to be attached to the Gyel Fortress dungeon which is also in Goboro Reef.
Atragarian Well Architecture Models
- Atragarian Well Models
- An Atragarian Well
- Atragarian Well Bridge Model
- Atragarian Well Home Model
- Atragarian Well Barnacle Homes Cluster Model
A couple of Atragarian Well models. These are found in Goboro Reef. Given their name “Well”, the closest part of the second image is likely the surface with the rest underground. The Wells have bridges at different sections as per the third image. There’s also some general homes that look similar to Draumheim’s homes and Barnacle Homes that look almost like a collection of gagged mouths.
Coral Porticulum
First look at a coral version of the Porticulum. There’s likely going to be multiple types of porticulums in Rift 3.0: Nightmare Tide as I doubt you will see these Coral Porticulums in, say, Tarken Glacier.
Other Architecture Models
Some other architecture models. The Throne in Draumheim Palace and a random group of rocks in Goboro Reef.
3.0 Creature Models
There’s a whole bunch of interesting creature models and skeletons with this week’s datamine:
Sea Colossus Models
- Sea Colossus Model 1
- Sea Colossus Model 2
- Sea Colossus Model 3
Two new models for a new creature, Sea Colossus. Clearly not its actual name but it’s looking quite interesting and could potentially be the ‘interesting’ colossus fight that MikeD has mentioned before.
The Sea Colossus here has a tadpole/shark-fin as well as a mouth (Image #3) that seems to shoot out tendrils when it attacks. Also has Freddy Krueger-like claws.
Colossus Life Plant
There was also a “creature/colossus/colossus_life_plant/rig/fleshwork_beast_head_select_01.ma” file. The model was just a sphere though so nothing to look at, but this could potentially be another colossus (i.e. zone event boss). The ‘select’ portion of the file name presumably means that there could be multiple heads/parts of its body to target.
Rift Cannon Models
Some more Rift Cannons that are clearly meant to spawn in rifts. Life, Air, Water and even a Nightmare cannon on top of the Death cannon we’ve seen before.
And that little image above is the Nightmare Cannon in super-small form. Looks like it’s got some eyes and a mouth (like most nightmare-related models that have been datamined thus far) as well as metal sticking out all over the place.
Griffon and Roc Pets
Skeletons, not models. It seems as though these are related to Vladd’s post about making changes to Ranger and Beastmaster after working on the Warrior Tank Souls.
- “griffon_pet_ranger.rig.ma” clearly seems to be talking about a Rogue Ranger Pet.
- “roc_pet_beastmaster.ma” clearly seems to be talking about a Warrior Beastmaster Pet.
- Possible Griffon Pet Skin
- Possible Roc Pet Skin
Above you can see what I assume to be the Griffon Pet Skin and the Roc Pet Skin.
Now, whether these are just companion pet skins or are new pets entirely is unknown at this stage. Regardless, look forward to the Griffon and Roc pets popping up at some point in the future!
Other Creature Models
A few other creature models: Jellyfish and Lobster critter skeletons as well as a Matron Zamira (Draumheim) ‘naked’ version. There’s one without the “_naked” prefix so this may refer to the main model’s children. That said, Matron Zamira was already ‘naked’ anyway. Maybe they’re referring to the belly – perhaps this version isn’t pregnant.
(now that I think about it, the skeleton is upside-down).
Other Models
Below you can find a collection of other models that don’t really fit in the previous categories:
Tarken Glacier Moon
The moon of Tarken Glacier. It does not look like a moon, but then again this is the Plane of Water and Trion have mentioned that each ‘layer’ has its own moon so who am I to judge. It probably spins given its design.
It will be interesting to see what the other moons look like and how they connect to the lore. Maybe they’ll end up being the Akvan’s eyes.
Maelforge’s Perch
Maelforge’s Perch. In the Tarken Glacier folder. Chances are this is just a rock formation they are reusing that has been used by Maelforge in Infernal Dawn. I can’t imagine Maelforge being in the Plane of Water unless its a frozen version from one of the multitude of alternate universes.
Draumheim Planters
A collection of plant models that are likely placed around Draumheim – perhaps as house/palace decorations.
Nightmare Rift Surface Model
A Nightmare Rift’s surface. The floor. Not too exciting and kind of looks like the Air rift surface texture.
Art Contest Model: Mazzarah’s 2H Staff
Previously TehFrank had datamined a few entries’ models from the “Savage Swords and Noble Staves” RIFT Concept Art Contest (winners’ entries). One more is up, this time being Mazzarah’s 3rd place winning entry in the 2-Handed Staff category.

Mazzarah’s Staff
Net Models
Two net models. A thrown and hit version. Unsure whether these are just doodads added in for Tarken Glacier port or perhaps an upgrade for the Fishing profession.
Akvan Totem Model
An Akvan Totem. From the file directory it seems to be a quest item. Has a tentacle-like bottom, probably to signify that the Akvan have tentacles. Maybe.
Interesting 3.0 Skins
A collection of 3.0 skins were also part of the datamined files.
Nightmare Rift Cannon Skins
- Nightmare Cannon Skin 1
- Nightmare Cannon Skin 2
- Nightmare Cannon Skin 3
These are what I assume are skins for the Nightmare Rift Cannons. Teeth, eyes and green tends to correspond to anything Nightmare-related.
Draumheim Architecture Skin
- Architecture Skin 1
- Architecture Skin 2
- Architecture Skin 3
- Architecture Skin 4
- Architecture Skin 5
- Architecture Skin 6
Some Draumheim Architecture skins for stuff like walls, pedestals/etc. May not be Draumheim, but seems pretty close.
Magic Circle Skins
- Magic Circle 1
- Magic Circle 2
- Pacman
Two magic circles and a ‘pacman’. The third image is likely just a base glow skin or something of that nature. The first two however are magic circles. These could potentially be new Rift Store skins for AoE abilities like Circle of Oblivion. They could also be related to the Nightmare Rifts or even related to some boss mechanic, like that “alchemy_array” and “rune_glow” files mentioned earlier relating to one of the Cosmic Mountain platform models.
Skelf Shaman Skin
This looks like one part of the Skelf Shaman skin. Basically the ‘dark’ skin (some skins have both a ‘dark’/’underside’/’shadow’ version and a normal version). You can see the fins, tail, the bone mask and the seaweed/kelp skirt.
Reference: Model below:
All the glow effects are blue in the above model. It could be that the ‘underside’ skin is simply red, or, perhaps there’s a red version of the Skelf Shaman. Another possibility is that the Skelf Shaman’s glow changes color depending on whether it is in light or dark areas. And yet another possibility is that the Red Skelf Shaman is on drugs/’frenzied’ state (which isn’t all that farfetched for a ‘shaman’ performing rituals).
Leave Instance Icons
There’s also new ‘leave instance’ icons. Interesting to see what these are supposed to represent. Perhaps they are Minion icons? i.e. perhaps the bottom icons are “Leave Mission” when they are in-complete and the top ones are “Leave Mission” when they have been completed, with the arrow indicated your Minion is idle/finished with its current mission.
All speculation though. What do you think? Familiar with anything in-game that just clicks with these icons?
Lobster Critter Skin
This is a Lobster Critter skin. Probably.
Interesting 3.0 Datafiles
A few of the datafiles not already mentioned above had some interesting filenames:
- “rigassetakylios_small.nif” – A small Akylios. Probably talking about either the Shade of Akylios boss in the Nightmare Coast Dungeon coming in RIFT 2.8: Madness Wakes, or the Akylios statues in Draumheim.
- “rigassetcolossus_life_bogling_female_01.nif” – Either this is an old file or they’re using a female Bogling like Althea or Mother Nug for 3.0.
- “human_male_wing_fairyrigassethuman_male_wing_fairy.nif” – Might just be talking about one of the male fairies like the Cleric alternate combat pet skin with guys like Hylas and Twyl. Or, perhaps they’re adding in wings for players.
- “rigassetsharknoid.nif” – Sharknoid. This isn’t the shark mount (which is called Thrasher).
- “animunarmedmeleeassetsharknoid_unarmed_melee_cleave.kf” – Just another file that proves the Sharknoid isn’t related to the Thrasher since the Thrasher is a mount and thus doesn’t have combat moves. It could also potentially be the Sea Colossus shown earlier in this article. One thing that pops into mind is the “Jump the Shark” phrase that Dead Simon mentioned would take on a new meaning. This could potentially be for a shark colossus and using jump pads to ‘jump the shark’.
More 3.0 Audio Files
Some more 3.0 Audio Files have been datamined by TehFrank with the latest update. You can check them out here. Warning, may contain spoilers!
Some more 3.0-related models and skins to wet our appetites. The Griffon & Roc pets as well as the Sea Colossus are nice finds, especially since most of the rest are just further additions to stuff we already know.
For past PTS Updates, click here. You can also find past datamining and 3.0-related news updates.
Oh gee, I hope they don’t do cosmetic wings
Sooo tacky.
It’s probably just changing the fairy combat pet wings or fairy wings in general – perhaps to improve performance by reducing all the ‘parts’ to it (kind of like how most non-player, non-Crucia-hero characters have flat, static faces now). I do think something like fairy wings (and inevitably angel/demon wings) would be pushing too close to ‘Asian MMORPG’ territory.
The “leave instance” icons actually have nothing to do with minions, good guess though!
You know when you’re working on a quest and the map just shows you a general area to go to but the thing you need is actually in a cave and you spend forever just trying to find the entrance? The icons above are going to be Cave Entrance Indicators to mark the exact entrance to your quest objective (green = Instant Adventure, yellow = quest, purple = world event, blue = zone event).
Ah, missed it by ‘that’ much. 😛 Thanks for the info Gingers! That sounds fantastic! There’s definitely issues with the current system for multi-layered areas in the game.
Moar minion info! >_<
@Mirandiral, I can’t talk about minions yet but I’m really excited about the UI for it!
