Trion Worlds Community Day 2014 Summary

Trion Worlds Community Day 2014 Feature Image

Trion held a “Trion Worlds Community Day 2014” earlier in the week where they invited a group of players from their various titles over to the  Trion Worlds office in Redwood Shores, California. Players include long-time contributors to RIFT including Techie Will, Seatin, Ilex011, Bctrainers and Noobzilla (Baramos). Other players attended as well including Defiance and Trove players.

As part of their visit they voiced feedback from the RIFT community, compiling information posted by the RIFT playerbase in this thread here. RIFT Game Director Daglar spent around 5hrs+ listening to the RIFT group after the main events of the day.

Text Summary of a Podcast Video about the day can be found here.

Summary:

  • Players spent time with developers of their respective games, playing all the titles and hanging out with the teams.
  • Discussed the player base’s issues and suggestions.
  • Had dinner with the team, including with CEO Scott Hartsman.
  • Techie Will mentioned that “Something big is coming next week”, and Trion has revealed that it is the next patch, RIFT 2.8: Madness Wakes, coming in August 6th.
  • The players were shown concept art of the Minions system coming in 3.0: Nightmare Tide with Techie Will stating that “minions are going to be awesome” [r] and ilex011 mentioning that it will “add a completely new dimension to the game”. [r]
    • The Minions user various “Adventure Cards” (which were originally called missions). [r]
    • Ideas for Adventure Cards that Trion are looking into include killing for XP/loot drops; harvesting craft items and artifact hunting. [r]
    • Can send them on missions using adventure cards wherever you are although there may be restrictions (like being out-of-combat; think Mentoring). [r]
    • Minions can level up but have stats. [r] (thanks to Gingers for the correction!)
    • Different minions are good at different types of missions/adventures based on different areas (missions/adventures set in “different planes and locations”). [r]
  • The RIFT Mobile App was brought up in conversation and Trion has some ideas to improve it although no ETA. [r]
  • RIFT team members could be heard throughout the day shouting “buff warlords” and looks like Senior Game Designer (and Warrior/Rogue dev) Vladd has confirmed it. So look forward to some Warlord buffs. [r]
  • Techie Will mentioned that something major PvP-related is happening and it has to do with gear. No further details provided. [r] Not normalization. [r] Baramos also mentioned that it will be a “pretty big selling point that should make a lot of players happy” and it is a change that “will not only make PvPers happy but PvE players as well”. [r]

For Further Information, check out some of these posts:

  • Baramos (Noobzilla) made an excellent post recounting his experience that you can find here where he mainly goes over the PvP-related suggestions he made to the team.
  • An enthusiastic post about the Trion team by ilex011 was posted here.
  • Two photos of the main room setup for the group can be found here.

There may even be a Trion Worlds Community Day 2015, so look forward to that!

“Minions can level up and have stats.” – Just a quick correction. Minions have a fixed level and cannot level up. They do however have stats 🙂

Actually to correct the correction, Minions can level up and have stats. Sorry if we didn’t make that clear during the impromptu presentation. 🙂 Also the missions are “Adventure Cards” but since we originally called them missions, us devs still have the bad habit of using the old name.

umm, do you mean Redwood Shores, CA? I hope so, because I’ve NEVER heard of Redshore Woods; and I was born in the Bay Area.

No idea how I jumbled that up. Thanks for the correction!
