Trion had their 15th August 2014 Friday Livestream with Livestreamer “Cole” Marshall, Community Manager Eric “Ocho” Cleaver, Art Manager “Marigold” and Lead Concept Artist Sven “Sven” Bybee.
As always, everything can be subject to change prior to the content hitting Live.
3.0: Nightmare Tide Concept Art
The Livestream was primarily concentrated on showing off a whole bunch of concept art. Feast your eyes on the following:
The Onir People
Onir – Dream Guard
First up is the ‘Dream’ version of the Onir People. There’s two types of Onir People – the ‘Dream’ version and the ‘Nightmare’ version. Sven described the two versions as being two sides of the same coin. This is the first time we’ve seen the Dream version of the Onir in Concept Art form (we’ve seen them in rig and skin form prior). Notice the bottom-left cape, which TehFrank datamined a few weeks ago.
Onir – Nightmare Soldier
The above is the Nightmare version. We’ve seen the male version before and ‘corpse’ models of both. The cape in the bottom-left hand corner was also datamined previously.
There are a few facial variations – perhaps to signify rank or class.
The Skelf
There’s a few Skelf images shown.
Skelf Exploration Sketches
First up is the initial “exploration sketches” of the Skelf where Sven drew up some ideas for the Skelf and after feedback began work on the Skelfs that we know of today.
During the Livestream, Ocho noted that not all the Skelfs were bad.
Skelf and Variations
Above you can find the concept art for the actual Skelfs and their various variations. A ‘Base’, ‘Shark’, ‘Shaman’, ‘Horror’ and ‘Armored’ Skelf.
3.0 Ice Creatures
A few ice/sea creature concept art was shown off during the livestream:
The Ice Giant
First up from the Tarken Glacier zone, we have an Ice Giant. On its right shoulder (our left) he has a ‘Maw Skull’, showing one of the head’s of Izbithu, the 4-headed frozen lake creature. Chances are there’s probably a heap of these lake creatures. On the Ice Giant’s left shoulder is a Mammoth Skull.
It’s actually quite interesting that this Ice Giant has a ‘Maw Skull’ because Izbithu looks pretty massive. My guess is that the skull on the Ice Giant’s shoulder is from an infant version of the lake creature/s.
The most interesting part of this Ice Giant (besides its size) is that it has a “Polvar Hide (With Broken Horns)” at its waist. If you look closely you can see the hands, head + broken horns. The bottom-right thumbnail image clearly shows this ‘Polvar’ mob, and it almost looks like it could be a mount given the ‘bones’ on its back.
That’s more new information – the polar bear skin and model TehFrank datamined previously actually has massive horns on its head. Incoming ‘Polvar’ mount?
Threngar (Boss)
Threngar is a Boss mob. According to the livestream, his ‘fist-claws’ are actually Threngar’s horns that were broken off at some point. He has since attached them to his gloves. He is designated a ‘boss’ mob, so he is likely a boss in the Glacial Maw dungeon or the Mount Sharax raid – both in the Tarken Glacier zone.
Matrodtraum (Boss)
Another Boss mob and clearly from Tarken Glacier (due to the ice shell). Looks like the skeleton/rig that was datamined for this beast is nothing like the Matron Zamira model we expected it to be.
As the image indicates, the tentacle protruding from its head emerges into a face. This is some kind of lobster, hermit crab, angler fish, octopus hybrid with a face-tentacle (which is about to get crane-kicked by that red-haired karate kid). As a boss mob, he will likely pop up in Glacial Maw or Mount Sharax.
Sea Colossus
We’ve seen this guy before, but here’s a much larger version of the image. On the livestream, Trion mentioned that the tentacles on his back are wrapped close to his body due to technical requirements so that the team doesn’t need to create and animate more bones on his rig/skeleton.
His mouth is pretty much what you see emerging from a Water Rift.

Mouth of a Water Rift
Next time you’re in a Water Rift, look up. That thing is basically the Sea Collosus’ mouth – it gives you a nice idea of the scale of the beast as well.
3.0 Armor Sets
Below you can find one set of armor, the “Sea of Dreams” set for each class.
Sea of Dreams Armor Sets
If anyone is interested, the small text you see is basically “Duplicate the Same Color & Designs from the Male Set on the Female Armor Pieces” – nothing exciting. The Plate Armor head piece reminds me of something I’ve seen somewhere else, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.
The female version of the Plate Armor seems to have a ‘Sand Muffler’-like design for the shoulders. It gives off a desert-soldier-like feel to it.
3.0 Weapons Sets
The following aren’t the complete set of weapons for everything that you will see in 3.0, but they are indicative of the weapons you’ll find.
Dream Guard Weapons
The full set of weapons for the Onir Dream people. They feel slightly Guardian PvP-weapon-inspired, although their blades are blue rather than white and there are water-inspired design elements throughout (like the ‘sea-shell’-like decor).
Compare that to the Onir Nightmare people’s weaponry:
Onir Nightmare Weapons

RIFT 3.0 Onir Nightmare Weaponry Concept Art
The two types of weapons are vastly different. The Onir Nightmare weaponry definitely gives off a distinct look with almost every piece containing an ‘eye’ and green glow.
Glacial Weapons
Trion showed off just a portion of the Ice Weaponry. There’s a full set, just like the other two above. Only the first few were shown. It looks as though the weapon models that were datamined recently are clearly for these Ice Weaponry rather than the assumed Skelf or Nightmare Weaponry.

RIFT 3.0 Weapons In-Game
And here are three of the models in-game. Lighting and VFX have not been completed.
Skelf Weapons
The Skelf Weaponry. Just three of them shown. Sven stated the idea was that the Skelf are not ‘savvy’ at crafting weapons so they give off more tribal-like design (bone carvings). The designs were inspired by the Polynesian culture, such as the Maori (New Zealand).
3.0 Scenery
A bunch of scenery was posted by Trion as well during the livestream – mainly bits from Goboro Reef.
Note: Everything is still WIP. Ocho stated that Goboro Reef was about 90% done. Marigold stated that they still had the final ‘polish’ phase to go through, which includes a proper pass on lighting and visual effects.
Goboro Reef
A coral tree and other parts of Goboro Reef. You can see what looks like a small shell ‘hut’ in the background under the tree’s foliage.
Another view of some coral trees, rocky overpass and more. It looks like this is on ‘dry’ land’ outside of the small pools of water at the bottom. As Trion have stated before, Goboro Reef has both volumes of water and ‘dry’ land. The water is in ‘chunks’ so you will actually be able to move from a ‘water’ area to a ‘dry’ area where the water is vertical rather than horizontal.
Another portion of Goboro Reef. This is ‘dry’ land. This area used to be underwater, but the Plane of Fire has been ‘drying up’ the place and has pushed the walls of water back.

RIFT 3.0 Goboro Reef Scenery #4
Some homes in Goboro Reef. You can see some Akylios Statues in front – same as in other locations like the Tarken Glacier zone.
The above image is potentially a look down an Atragarian Well. It’s a guess based on the ‘bridges’ you see which have been datamined before as well as the multitude of barnacle homes around the walls of the place that are associated with the/an Atragarian Well.
Another angle of what is supposedly the inside of an Atragarian Well. The thing in the middle is most likely an Atragarian Chandelier.
Gyel Fortress
Gyel Fortress. On the Livestream, Trion mentioned that it is pronounced ‘guile’, not ‘gill’. This massive fortress used to belong to the Plane of Water, but it was overtaken by the Plane of Fire and distorted/build upon with metal. This place is clearly related to the Bloodfire Army, given the zone event announcements seen on the PTS and the achievements for the place.
You can get an idea of the size of the fortress from this concept art here. The stuff at the bottom surrounding the fortress are shipwrecks.
