RIFT 3.0: Nightmare Tide has been announced for release on 8th October 2014! [Source: RIFT]

Here’s a summary of what we know thus far:

  • Level cap increases to 65.
  • 6 new Dungeons, a Sliver, a Raid and a Chronicle will be available on release of the expansion.
  • Nightmare Rifts come in – 5 ranks + normal Nightmare Rifts available in-game. Some will even be available for lower levels. These are challenging Rifts with a ton more stages than normal Rifts.
  • Mentoring Up – the ability to mentor up so you can join players in zone events and other activities without having to be at that level first.
  • Raid Zone Instant Adventures. IAs in raids such as Hammerknell Fortress.
  • Minions – Account-wide card-based pets that complete various activities for you such as collecting artifacts or gathering resources.
  • Water and Amphibious Mounts. Some existing and new mounts will be upgradeable so they can be used underwater.
  • New Zones: Goboro Reef, Draumheim and Tarken Glacier.
  • New Masteries that you can choose from that you get for each level above 60 to add various benefits to your specs (no details yet).
  • New Equipment Slots that you can earn in-game or purchase through the Nightmare Tide Digital Edition.
  • PvP Gear improvements to allow for a smaller gear gap. There’s also something coming in to allow PvP players easier access to PvE content.
  • Toughness stat to be removed. New GUARD tank stat coming that provides an aura with positive benefits to players within x meters of the tank.

The Nightmare Tide expansion will be free in terms of zones, quests, dungeons, raids and other such content. The main items that require Credits would be the Dream Soul Pack (that is already available), new Equipment Slots and possibly (but unconfirmed) additional Minion slots. Note that the Equipment Slots can be gained in-game via non-Credits currency as well.

There will be 3 different collector’s editions of Nightmare Tide for those who wish to support the game. [r] Those containing the new Equipment Slots will make those slots become unlocked account-wide, rather than per-character if you were to buy the new slots in-game.

As for the date itself:

A little soonish in my opinion. I was expecting early November. October 8th is miles ahead of what I imagined and I’m wondering just how much testing has gone into this expansion.

It’s a month earlier than when Storm Legion was released the same time two years ago and by all accounts there was a whole bunch of problems with SL at release. From my ‘search’ window checks of who’s on PTS every now and then throughout the past few weeks, there have been very few people on (searching 1 to 65). Only the recent beta code giveaways have started to see a small increase.

I really hope Nightmare Tide will be ready by 8th October and that this date wasn’t announced due to pressure from WoW’s expansion release in mid-Nov.

What are your thoughts? Earlier than expected? Later? Just right?

Look forward to RIFT 3.0: Nightmare Tide on 8th October 2014! No doubt open beta will be available even sooner so keep an eye out for news on that!

Wondering if they will be pushing autumn harvest back this year till end of October, REALLY looking forward to this, hope it will keep us really busy for a few months

They’ve stated before it will be pushed back to early November. They also have the ‘supposed’ Extra Life Charity Event World Event – although that’ll probably only be for 25th-26th Oct weekend.

Well… Bugs are always to be expected. At some point, the game is good enough to be released. As long as there aren’t any glaringly horrid bugs, like with zone event bosses, dungeons or raids.

If they can actually pull this off successfully… I can’t imagine how beneficial it would be for RIFT. 😛

Certainly. Not expecting it to be bug-free; but hopefully it isn’t like Storm Legion launch (or at the very least, fluff item rewards like Classic Rift instead of PA XP crystals for meta achievement rewards like with Storm Legion; and no cut-short quest chains like Ashora and Steppes of Infinity).

One thing to consider is that the expansion will be lodged right in the middle between ArcheAge release (12th Sept early; 16th full) and WoW expansion (12th Nov or something? Can’t recall).

yeah i am also hopping that the rewards from achievements give nice rewards like classic rift. Storm Legion rewards are awful.

If Trion is reading this, give us a seahorse mount for one of the Goboro Reef meta achievements!

I was very surprised when I heard the date, and I think that you may be right in the expansion being rushed due to Warlords of Draenor in November.

I am looking forward to it, however, so we’ll see. If nothing else, it ought to be interesting.

I was expecting, with all the delays and bugs and such, for it to come out in late December early January! This October 6th release date concerns me greatly. Look at all the bugs we had with 2.8 and 2.7, what happens when 3.0 drops? Servers crash? Chat crashes? I am more then a little skeptical about this but we’ll see I guess.

I personally wish it will be pushed back to Mid November >.<

I feel it is still too early.
