[Update: 09.04.14 1:56PM PDT] NA Shards coming down for RIFT 2.8 Hotfix #7 at 2:30PM PDT. Estimated down-time is 1hr. [r] EU shards will get it at 1AM GMT on Friday, 5th September.

[Update: 09.04.14 9:27AM PDT] Trion confirms that after Comcast’s maintenance, they were hit with a DDoS aimed at Trion’s servers.

Following last night’s ISP maintenance, our overnight team has confirmed a DDOS that is currently aimed at Trion’s services. We’re actively working with our ISP partners and the authorities on both mitigating its effects and ensuring this group gets caught.

Our live games are up and ArcheAge’s open beta is going forward as planned. While the attack persists, there may be some effects on network stability and some website unavailability. You also may need to use the Resend Code option for our login security and RIFT’s Coin Lock if the email doesn’t reach you at first.

We’ll keep you informed as the situation evolves.

Riftgame.com direct page is still having issues loading, although the RIFT Forums and indirect access to the site have no issues.

UPDATES

[Update: 09.04.14 1:02AM PDT] Trion CEO Scott Hartsman has made a post on the Reddit thread stating that it is due to Comcast (ISP) maintenance. They are now routing around it. No ETA on when servers will be back up but it seems at least the server maintenance staff at Trion are awake (it’s 1AM PDT) and aware of the current issue.

Evening! Comcast maintenance. We’re routing around it.

[Source: Scott Hartsman]

[Update: 09.04.14 1:05AM PDT] Hartsman comments that they have multiple internet providers, but Comcast’s maintenance has taken down another provider and forced them to route everything to a third provider:

Moments like this I wish everyone could be in the internal chats. We have a number of internet providers for exactly this kind of thing. All usually works just fine, unless Provider #1’s maintenance is so far-reaching that it actually takes down Provider #2 and we now have to push everything to Provider #3.

[Source: Scott Hartsman]

[Update: 09.04.14 1:17AM PDT] Glyph & RIFT posts about the issue on their Facebook Pages. They state that the most common error people will be getting right now is Error #2025. You won’t need to use any of the solutions to the typical Error #2025 because it’s not on your end. [r]

Unfortunately, the 2025 error is tied to this current issue. We working to help players get connected as soon as possible.[r]

[Update: 09.04.14 3:14AM PDT] RIFT Forums just went back online! (loading slow though) Glyph Login still down. [3:27AM PDT] RIFT Forums extremely slow and may not load.

[Update: 09.04.14 4:38AM PDT] RIFT is back online! [4:50AM PDT] Some players (mostly EU players according to comments/social media) are still experiencing issues and slow load time on forums. I’m getting about 200ms (latency/lag) higher than usual so it is likely that they’re funneling in players bit by bit and opening it up.

Huge Latency in RIFT

There’s huge latency in RIFT right now and it seems other Trion titles as well. The forums are also down.

Bctrainers on RIFT’s subreddit has stated that the servers themselves are not down but a router in-between Trion’s servers and players is likely under a Distributed Denial of Service (‘DDoS’) attack.

The servers themselves are NOT down, they are still up and running. There is a router before the actual Rift (and other Trion servers) that is, to be frank – shitting the bed right now. It seems and appears to be indicative of a DDoS attack. [src: Bctrainers]

ShesLevel18 has also indicated that some players are still in-game, although with major lag.

As it was said, it’s technically NOT down. My vent has 4 players still in game and ‘playing’ while everyone else (well over 20 also in vent) are unable to log in. The ones still in the game have some HUGE latency tho so it may as well be not be playing but they said they were running around TB and it’s a ghost. [src: ShesLevel18]

Other Tidbits:

  • US Shards – No Zone Events except a “Sticks and Stones” in Stonefield on Seastone shard. [Image] [r]
  • EU Shards – A ton of Unstable Zone Events (they appear when shard/zone population is low). Looks like the handful of players who are still online are probably in EU. [Image] [r]

I know right? It’s our prime time! Worst time for Comcast to do maintenance (but good for USA I guess).

It is already a pain to connect to rift evverytime it does work(due to dynamic ip my isp provides) and now this on top…

    • September 4, 2014 at 2:40 am #

For dynamic ISP issues, you can contact Trion to request that you don’t get coin-locked. There’s less security of course (because someone accessing your account from a different IP won’t get coinlocked) but it does eliminate that annoyance for you and you can always use the Authenticator to keep your account (relatively) safe. Unfortunately I can’t link the support page because Trion’s servers are down.

hmm, That is one long reroute. I’ve worked in a huge IT company, and with such timeframe it sounds more like laying new cabling to another company. Manually. For us getting rerouted would take 5-10mins. 15mins tops. They need to do more critical event scenarios for their support imho…

    • September 4, 2014 at 3:15 am #

Hopefully Trion have planned for their huge, but short block of releases this year.

      • 4-8th Sept: ArcheAge Open Beta
      • 12th Sept: ArcheAge Head Start
      • 16th Sept: ArcheAge Official Launch
      • 25th Sept: Trove Closed Beta Begins
      • End of Sept: Defiance ‘Aftermath’ huge Update
      • Oct 8th: RIFT Nightmare Tide Launch (and perhaps Open Beta prior)

Hope Trion has the servers ready.

oh, and to have a high latency backup in another place doesn’t cost THAT much, but is at least something in such cases… better to have long login queue, than no login at all.

But Comcast is the best internet provider there is. Why would you ever switch to another? 😀

monoplys always say that it’s either comcast or verizon and if u don’t live in high density areas u get the shaft from the giants no money running optical cable to an area with 40 houses

    • September 4, 2014 at 3:30 am #

I hear some pretty bad stuff about Comcast, not just its customer support. Like how they suspiciously shaped Netflix speed during negotiations and it went back up after those negotiations were successful.

    • Elizabeth
      September 4, 2014 at 3:30 am #

not switch – have backup!. you know, like paying for full required bandwidth for one, and lets say for 50-75% for the other. so that in case one is down – you get another one. Apparently 2nd went down due to first one’s activities. and I guess they didn’t have a third…
We used at have 3 though. last one at 10-20% of required capacity, however, something is better than nothing. especially when it seems that issue is not with game servers, but with login ones. some other games have high latency and low capacity backup servers for such cases. instead of not logging in, you may get like an hour queue waiting time. Ued to go, have lunch, watch movie or something meanwhile. I come back – already in. and can start playing. 🙂

servers can be located in other are giving more robust backup.

Rift is still down for me.

    • September 4, 2014 at 4:53 am #

Yea looks like forum loading is still extremely slow and #2025 Error is still being experienced by some players. Could be that they are funneling players in bit by bit as more servers get routed (or whatever they’re doing).

I’m personally in-game as well as a few others, but there’s definitely very few people chatting (you’d expect a lot more at this point) and only 4 people in my guild are up so clearly there’s still issues.

Okay. Thank you for letting me know. It’s rather frustrating that it’s working for some but not others. Haha. Though, I do understand that these things happen, so I’m just going to be patient.

    • September 4, 2014 at 5:12 am #

Yep. It’s 2:11 pm here in Italy and it’s still down. Same 2025 error and the forums are down, too. We’ll just have to wait, I suppose, and hope that they’ll resolve this fast.
