Trion had their 17th October 2014 Friday Livestream with Livestreamer “Cole” Marshall,  Senior Systems Designer Christopher “Archonix” Junior, Senior Design Director Simon “Dead Simon” Ffinch and Executive Producer Bill “Daglar” Fisher As always, everything can be subject to change prior to the content hitting Live.

Nightmare Tide Information

With just under a week until the launch of the Nightmare Tide expansion, Trion have included various tidbits during today’s livestream in what was mainly the staff answering livestream chat channel questions.

Nightmare Tide Launch Info

  • Cannot pre-download patch. [that said, you ‘could’ use some PTS files, but be aware that the PTS gets updated on a near daily basis during the weekday with 0.5-1GB downloads, and most are re-downloading existing files.]
  • Approx 4hr maintenance. Maintenance will start at about 6AM PDT on Wednesday, Oct 22nd.

General

  • You will have a buff in the Plane of Water so that you can swim faster and jump high when going out of water. You also won’t drown in the Plane of Water.
  • Daglar mentioned it had one of the best questing in RIFT history.
Rended Falls Preview

Rended Falls. Some buildings protruding sideways.

Dead Simon showed off Rended Falls; a district in Draumheim’s city that has buildings and models in various quirky positions.

  • Akvan Horror Elites can be found up in the Ocean Sky above Draumheim. Give them a shot when you get up there.

Nightmare Tide Packs

  • No patron time in Nightmare packs. People have already bought packs and they aren’t going to update them.
  • Nightmare Tide Packs will be available on Steam at Nightmare Tide launch due to the policies of Steam.

You can find out more about the Nightmare Tide packs here.

Mounts

  • Cobalt Crabnarok Supply Crate is a new lockbox coming at launch that has a chance of dropping the Cobalt Crabnarok Supply Crate.
  • The Cobalt Crabnarok Mount is a 155% account-wide mount. The consumable can be tradeable like all Premium lockbox mounts.
  • Rivertail currently cannot swim, but Trion are looking into allowing the mount to swim at a future date.
  • Trion are still figuring out how players will obtain the amphibious mount consumable (that turns some existing land mounts to amphibious ones).
  • No flying mounts planned. However, when you’re above Draumheim in the Ocean Sky on an amphibious mount, it can feel like flying.
  • Gliders have been talked about internally. It is on Daglar’s wishlist but unknown when or if it will actually arrive.
  • A Boar Mount will be coming down the line. Trion joked (though it might actually happen) that it would be called ‘Trino The Mighty’ with tooltip ‘spaceboots pls’ (since spaceboots has been requesting a Boar Mount for a while now).

Also a tidbit: Archonix named the Crabnarok mount as well as the Chloromancer Mage soul.

Raids

  • New raids do not have hardmodes yet.
  • Tier 1/2 SL gear will last you a bit and Tier 3 SL gear will last you to 65 and almost into Experts, but not into them [you’ll need to get new HIT pieces].

PvP

  • Reiterated that there’s no PvP gear. PvP and PvE have been merged.
  • No plans for an Arena. Still have Ranked 5v5. Daglar mentioned the uptake of the Ranked 5v5 map is extremely low – about one match per week.
  • Conquest Power will be removed. Conquest Perks are gone.
  • PvP Marks are not useful in Nightmare Tide. These marks will probably be removed from the game in Patch 3.1. [Consider getting the 36-slot Innumerable Pockets bag that requires current PvP and PvE marks now before 3.1 arrives].
  • Favor will still remain useful. They can be used to purchase upgrade components to upgrade gear that drops when you win warfronts.

Locations

Zoological Mountaineering

Zoological Mountaineering Achievement

Zoological Mountaineering Achievement

Dead Simon showed off a ‘secret’ crevice at (4675, 3320) in Tarken Glacier. You can fall through the crevice and you will find artifacts. There’s also a sign to teleport you back up. Going into the crevice and existing via the sign will get you the ‘Zoological Mountaineering’ achievement.

Tarken Glacier Puzzle

Tarken Glacier Puzzle Preview

Dead Simon showed off the location of the Tarken Glacier Puzzle. The puzzle is a game of ‘Squares’ or ‘Dots and Boxes’. You are faced against the AI and have to make as many boxes ‘yours’ by being the one to ‘close’ the box. If you have more boxes than the AI at the end you win and receive a key that opens the chest at the back of the puzzle.

Tetromino Companion Pet

Tetromino Companion Pet

The reward for the puzzle is a companion pet called Tetromino. Dead Simon also mentioned that other prizes in the other zones’ puzzles include a Puzzle Cape costume and a special dimension item.

Misc. Info

  • Artifacts: At launch will have normal artifacts with twisted ones following afterwards at some point. Dead Simon also has ideas for new ‘Nightmare Artifacts’.
  • There’s a new Artifact achievement for getting 1,200 artifact sets. There will be more than 1,200 artifact sets at Nightmare Tide launch.
  • Generally speaking, Trion will not convert marks from old currencies into new currencies.
  • Patron Daily/Weekly Gifts have been converted so that the ones you get prior to launch will be Level 60-scaled whilst the ones you get after launch will be Level 65-scaled. This also means you’ll get Budgie Supply Crates (60) pre-launch and Cobalt Crabnarok Supply Crates (65) post-launch for Weekly Patron Gifts. You might as well use your gifts now.

Other Non-Nightmare Tide Info

Autumn Harvest World Event

  • Potentially the week after Nightmare Tide launch (so 30th Oct) but this all depends on the workload generated from after launch (from unforeseen bugs/etc).
  •  Won’t have super-overpowered rings or anything like that because the event is so close after expansion release.

Extra Life Charity Event

The Extra Life charity event is a 24hr gaming event to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. This year Trion will be participating again from 8AM PDT on 25th Oct till 8AM PDT on 26th Oct 2014. Dead Simon briefly talked about the variety of donation contests being held by Trion. You can check out full information on Extra Life here. Noshei@Greybriar also donated $500 to Dead Simon’s donation page during the livestream and Dead Simon stated he would receive an artifact set named after him. Thanks to Noshei for his generous donation to Dead Simon’s chosen hospital, the Children’s Hospital Oakland.

Other Info

  • One of the Trion staff members made a Segway-like vehicle at one point; but it no longer exists now.

During the Livestream, a handful of livestream chat channel viewers received:

I’ve already talked with Simon about the artifact set he is making for me. It looks like it will be a really cool set and possibly one of the hardest sets to finish in 3.0.

He has stated it should be in for the 3.0 launch.

That’s awesome! I look forward to getting my hands on it!

Lucky for Simon, the Tarken Glacier puzzle AI is not too bright. If the AI had closed the outline of the game in the second picture Simon would have lost by 22 to 3 🙂
