Notice: Windows 10 and RIFT

Players who have Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 have probably noticed a new Windows 10 icon in their taskbar. Don’t panic! This icon simply allows you to reserve your free upgrade to Windows 10 later this year.

Windows 10 Taskbar

Windows 10 will officially be available on July 29th 2015 and you have until July 29th 2016 to take advantage of the free upgrade that Microsoft is offering for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users.

Simply right-click the icon and choose “Get Windows 10” or “Check your upgrade status” to see if you’ve got the upgrade reserved. You can ask Microsoft to send you a confirmation e-mail when Windows 10 is available for installation.

You can also check if there’s any applications that won’t work after Windows 10 is installed by clicking on the ‘3-bars’ icon in the top-left hand corner of the “Get Windows 10” window and choosing “Check your PC”. (You might notice the current version of Norton Antivirus won’t work, but Norton has stated they’ll have a compatible version prior to July 29th).

You can find more details about Windows 10 here.

RIFT Windows 10 Support

Windows 10 can currently be accessed through test builds. However, RIFT currently does not work on these builds so if you wish to continue playing RIFT, it is best to stick with previous versions of Windows until July 29th 2015 when the official release version of the operating system becomes available.

Trion stated back on 29th January that they intend to support RIFT to run on Windows 10 when it officially launches. Pithos stated that they did not have any systems running on the pre-release versions of Windows 10 at the time.

On the 20th March, Trion’s RIFT twitter account responded to a player about Windows 10 support, reiterating that they’ll “be looking at Windows 10 and making sure everything works properly as it gets closer to release”. [r]

[Update 04.06.15] – TrionBrasse has announced that support for Windows 10 for RIFT is “expected later in June”. [r]

It is expected that Trion will update RIFT to be Windows 10 compatible before July 29th, but I’ll be sure to include any information about this closer to release. To be prudent, after July 29th 2015, you might want to double check that RIFT works before you install Windows 10.

I am honestly so sad, rift used to be an awesome game back at beta time, I played and I was so proud of their support quality (patches every few days to fix even little stuff).

Now I keep getting disappointed, their graphic engine is crappy and they don’t do anything to improve the situation (there are “low-cost” alternative like free UE4 to explore too if they can’t touch current engine… but they don’t care it seems)

The f2p stuff (farm quantity and stuff to buy) is getting embarassing and bug fixing and support is so crap that even aeria games could be on par with them, just take as an example mage dev not replying for 26+ days on official forums and mages going crazy for that.

Now this, no windows 10 support in the near future when microsoft already announced it won’t receive any major changes from 10122 onwards and the function that got removed is a 5 minutes fix (other devs with same error on their software said).

A very sad and disappointed player 😦

I totally agree with you. I loved the game in “vanilla/chocolate” w/e you want to call it. After that it seems like devs just droped the game on the floor.

this has been personally very frustrating as i bought the box version of rift right after the launch. while i have not been a permanently online player of this game i truly enjoyed playing it. that being said it seems selfish to restrict adding a simple function to a game because supposedly windows might keep changing it. folks are jumping on the win 10 bandwagon faster than a lot of other folks have jumped onto other releases of windows.

i have only run into a few games that i cannot play and no software otherwise with windows 10. other than tera and rift there is nothing i cannot play with on win 10 unless its really old. i wish that trion would just fix this instead of making folks wait for something they have mostly had ready to patch for weeks now. they hold off on releasing the patch why though?
