Archive of Flesh: Ahzrius

Ahzrius

The Ahzrius encounter begins when you attack or are in range of Ahzrius after the mini-event is over. There’s two phases to the fight although if you have decent DPS you may end up skipping the second phase.

Phase 1 – Normal Phase

Morphic Wave & Wave of Mutilation

This is Ahzrius’ main attack; a ranged attack that usually is aimed entirely at the tank, dealing approximately 10k physical damage per hit.

There’s also a mechanic attached to this attack. Every time he successfully casts Morphic Wave, he gets a stack of Morphic Wave buff. If this reaches 4 stacks, he will teleport and then cast Wave of Mutilation from himself. Wave of Mutilation is an orb that shoots out from him – anyone who touches it will take ticks of approximately 8k damage as long as they are touching the orb.

To remove his stacks of Morphic Wave, you must successfully interrupt a Morphic Wave cast. Due to the nature of cooldowns, it is advisable to interrupt him on his next Morphic Wave cast after he has 3 stacks of the Morphic Wave buff.

Having at least two players responsible for interrupting will help ensure you don’t get hit by Wave of Mutilation.

Drastic Renovations

Every now and then Ahzrius will emote “Ahzrius prepares to bring down the Archive on top of you. Get near him!” and cast Drastic Renovations. A large purple ring will appear on top of him – get inside the ring before his cast ends or else you will take 30-40k damage (and effectively die for non-tanks).

Unbridled Mutation

Ahzrius casts Unbridled Mutation which places a dot on players that ticks every 2 seconds for about 2.5k damage per tick.

Genetic Alteration

Ahzrius casts Genetic Alteration on a random player. That player receives a green, cone AoE in front of them. After a few seconds you will be stunned and start spewing vomit at the location of the cone AoE.

Anyone inside the cone when you start vomiting will take ticks of 2.5-3k damage. Any Child of Ahzrius Adds will instantly die and produce an AoE with a green poisonous gas graphic with a yellow ring that slowly moves randomly around the room dealing damage to anyone standing in it.

You can aim the AoE by facing in a different direction prior to becoming stunned. It is best to aim this away from players and away from any Adds.

Child of Ahzrius (Add) & Marrow Drain

Child of Ahzrius will spawn one by one throughout the fight. They use a ‘Marrow Drain’ ability that deals a low 500 damage to their target.

Primordial Miasma

When a Child of Ahzrius dies to Genetic Alteration, they will spawn an AoE that is indicated by a green poisonous gas graphic with a yellow ring. This moves slowly at random in the room.

Anyone who stands in this AoE takes 1.5k ticks of damage. The AoE can stack – so if a whole bunch of Child of Ahzrius adds die at the same location, standing in it can turn deadly for non-tanks quite quickly.

Phase 2 – Unnatural Selection

At some point if your DPS isn’t high enough to take him down, Ahzrius will cast Unnatural Selection which will teleport two random players to the two upper floor rooms (the Vorka and Cahail encounter rooms).

Vorka’s Room

The player who ends up in Vorka’s Room must click on Levers as they become active. There’s 4 Levers in this room (same mechanic as during the second boss, Vorka’s encounter). You will need to be fast as you are alone in this room and no one else can help you.

If you wait too long the active Lever will start spewing AoE that will damage you per tick.

After you have closed a few Levers, a Purple portal will appear at the entrance to the room. Running through the portal will allow you to exit the room and you can then jump back down to the ground floor where Ahzrius is.

Cahail’s Room

The player who ends up in Cahail’s Room must dodge the Frenzied Embrace AoEs that spawn on the ground (same mechanic as during the fourth boss, Cahail’s encounter). You will need to be fast and super-careful that you don’t get hit as nobody else can help you/heal you.

After a few AoEs spawn, a Purple portal will appear at the entrance to the room. Running through the portal will allow you to exit the room and you can then jump back down to the ground floor where Ahzrius is.

Unnatural Selection

After he casts Unnatural Selection and ports two random players to the two rooms, he will begin to channel Unnatural Selection. This will heal him over time and he will become immobile (but still damageable) until he finishes his channel.

Once he finishes his channel he will go back to the mechanics of Phase 1 – Normal Phase.

Strategy – Ahzrius

Interrupt Is Required
Cleansing Not Required

  • Interrupt Morphic Wave whilst it is being cast. Interrupting after the boss has 3 stacks of the Morphic Wave buff will allow for your interrupt cool-down to reset prior to the next 3 stacks. Successfully interrupting Morphic Wave will remove all stacks of the Morphic Wave Buff. If Ahzrius reaches 4 stacks of the Morphic Wave Buff, he will teleport to a random location and cast Wave of Mutilation at a random player. Anyone who touches Wave of Mutilation takes damage.
  • Run into the purple AoE surrounding Ahzrius before he finishes casting Drastic Renovations. You should make sure you aren’t too far from Ahzrius at any point in time so you actually have time to run in for Drastic Renovations.
  • Genetic Alteration puts a large, green cone AoE aimed in front of a random player. After a few seconds the player will become stunned and start vomiting. Anyone caught in the AoE will take damage per tick. Any Child of Ahzrius Add caught in the AoE will instantly die and drop a yellow Primordial Miasma AoE that does damage to anyone inside. Aim Genetic Alteration away from the raid and adds so you don’t have to deal with Primordial Miasma AoE.
  • Unnatural Selection – When Unnatural Selection begins, the two random players who get ported should click on Levers or dodge AoE depending on which room they get teleported to. Those players who haven’t been ported should DPS Ahzrius.

Tank-specific

  • An interrupt is required. Morphic Wave casts should be interrupted prior to remove stacks of the Morphic Wave Buff from Ahzrius so it doesn’t reach 4 stacks. Interrupting the Morphic Wave cast after Ahzrius has received 3 Stacks is usually a good idea and your interrupt’s cool-down should be over by the time Ahzrius gains another 3 stacks.
  • Tank Ahzrius so that he isn’t too far from other players and well away from any Primordial Miasma AoE that the adds drop when they die. This way when Ahzrius casts Drastic Renovation and everyone runs in to the purple AoE, they won’t take damage from Primordial Miasma AoEs that are on top of the boss.
  • If you get ported to one of the top floor rooms for Unnatural Selection, make sure to quickly get back after dealing with the mechanics so you can quickly pick up the boss again when he finishes channeling Unnatural Selection.

Healer-specific

  • Cleansing is not required.
  • If Ahzrius hits 4 stacks of Morphic Wave, he will teleport to a random location and cast Wave of Mutilation. Make sure to shield or have decent heals ready just in case any players take several ticks of damage from this.
  • When Ahzrius casts Drastic Renovation, if there is a ton of Primordial Miasma AoE near Ahzrius, you may need to heal the party a lot to heal through Primordial Miasma damage until the Drastic Renovation cast ends.

DPS-specific

  • An interrupt is required. Morphic Wave casts should be interrupted prior to remove stacks of the Morphic Wave Buff from Ahzrius so it doesn’t reach 4 stacks. Interrupting the Morphic Wave cast after Ahzrius has received 3 Stacks is usually a good idea and your interrupt’s cool-down should be over by the time Ahzrius gains another 3 stacks.
