Mini-Event Prior to Tzul –

Archive of Flesh Tzul 1

As soon as you enter Archive of Flesh there is a mini-event to tackle. This involves killing 4 packs of Patchwork Horror + additional adds on the ground floor area whilst avoiding Tzul.

Patchwork Horror

You will see a whole bunch of statues standing on podiums along the entire edge of the room. A random Patchwork Horror will become active when you go near it for each corner of the room (so a total of 4). Each one also spawns additional adds with it.

The tank goes round the room picking up Patchwork Horrors. If you are only Expert-ready and don’t have much gear (or your healer doesn’t have much gear), it may be best to aggro them one at a time.

Tzul During Mini-Event

After you kill one Patchwork Horror, Tzul will spawn at the end of the room (pictured above) with large lights in front of his eyes. If you go too close to him or go in front of the headlights, he will aggro and kill everyone.

What you have to do is pick up and kill off Patchwork Horrors without aggroing Tzul. Tzul will walk back and forth between the 4 ‘lanes’ of the area. When he gets to a corner he will either turn back or change direction to the adjacent lane.

Once you kill all 4 Patchwork Horrors, Tzul will despawn and you will be able to head to the actual Tzul boss encounter.

Tzul

The Tzul encounter begins when you attack or are in range of Tzul after the mini-event is over.

Archive of Flesh Tzul 2

To get to the Tzul encounter, run up the ramp and head left on the top floor and stand on the bridge. Make sure you are on the bridge or else you may end up being locked out until the later in the fight.

Auto Attack

Tzul’s main attack is just a physical auto attack. that does approx 10-15k damage to the tank.

Tzul does not cleave so melee can stand right in front of him.

Heighten Panic

Throughout the fight he will cast Heighten Panic. It is an interruptible cast that will stun everyone if it manages to be cast. Interrupt it.

Bone Shrapnel

Bone Shrapnel is the AoE that the walls of the encounter shoot out. You will notice that the wall on Tzul’s end will glow Red and then ‘shrapnel’ will burst out from it throughout the fight. Anyone within a certain range of this attack will be hit for 5-10k Death damage and receive a debuff that increases incoming damage to them by 25%.

The Tank needs to tank Tzul so he is standing in-between the middle of the bridge and the wall that has Bone Shrapnel currently active whilst the tank and melee stands in the middle of the bridge. This way, Tzul gets hit by Bone Shrapnel whilst melee and tanks won’t get hit by it. It is vital that Tzul gets hit by Bone Shrapnel.

Just check his “Statis Hardened Husk” to confirm if you’ve placed him in the right position. If stacks of Statis Hardened Husk doesn’t drop from Tzul each time Bone Shrapnel goes off, it means you’ve taken him too far into the bridge. If the Tank or the Melee players are getting the damage debuff on them when Bone Shrapnel goes off, it means you’re too close to the wall.

Stasis Hardened Husk

A 4-stack buff on Tzul. Tzul takes 25% less damage per stack. You remove stacks by having Tzul get hit by Bone Shrapnel. Once all 4 stacks disappear, future hits by Bone Shrapnel will cause Tzul to gain a debuff called Bone Shrapnel that increases the damage he takes by 25% per stack.

Berserk

A stacking debuff that increases the out-going damage that Tzul does. The longer the fight lasts, the higher the stacks.

Wall of Infinite Agony

After a while Tzul will cast Wall of Infinite Agony – this is a very large pulsing, purple AoE. Get completely out of the AoE (by running to the other side of the bridge) before he finishes channeling or else you will die.

Once Wall of Infinity Agony has completed channeling, Bone Shrapnel will switch walls to the other side. Simply reverse the positioning (so Tank/Melee is in the middle of the bridge and Tzul is now on the other side).

Strategy – Tzul

Interrupt is Required
Cleansing Not Required

  • Tank pulls and positions Tzul as per the ‘Bone Shrapnel’ image above so that the tank and melee DPS are in the middle of the bridge and Tzul positioned just before the middle of the bridge with his back to the currently active red ‘Bone Shrapnel’ wall.
  • Interrupt Heighten Panic.
  • When he uses Wall of Infinite Agony, run right out of the purple AoE, wait for him to finish his channel and then reverse positions.
  • Tzul does not cleave so it is okay to be in front of him.

Tank-specific

  • An interrupt is required. Interrupt Heighten Panic so the party doesn’t get stunned.
  • Position him as per the ‘Bone Shrapnel’ image above.
  • When Wall of Infinite Agony channels – run out of it, wait for him to finish channeling and then re-position him, but this time in reverse because the ‘Bone Shrapnel’ mechanic will switch walls.

Healer-specific

  • Cleansing is not required.
  • After running out of Wall of Infinite Agony, run to the other side of the room as the ‘Bone Shrapnel’ walls will reverse.
  • Considerable healing may be required if DPS is low or if Tanks/melee-DPS ends up not positioning properly and get hit by Bone Shrapnel.

DPS-specific

  • An interrupt is required. Interrupt Heighten Panic so the party doesn’t get stunned.
  • After running out of Wall of Infinite Agony, run to the other side of the room as the ‘Bone Shrapnel’ walls will reverse.
  • To maximise DPS, hold off on using any significant cooldown blocks until after Tzul loses his 4 stacks of Status Hardened Husk.
