Guide: Accessing the PTS

PTS Update General Feature Image

Here’s a guide to accessing the Public Test Shard (“PTS”) and on how to obtain the various test gear packs and other test content packs that are on the Public Test Shard.

Table of Contents:

  • Obtaining the PTS Client
  • Transferring an Existing Char onto the PTS
  • Creating a New Char on the PTS
  • The Dummy Foundry – Overview
  • Accessing the Dummy Foundry

Obtaining the PTS Client

The Public Test Shard (“PTS”) is on a separate client from the Live client. As such you will need to download the PTS Client.

Step 1: Open your Glyph Client

Open your Glyph Client and log into your account.

Step 2: Choose PTS from Drop-Down

Glyph PTS Dropdown

When you’ve selected RIFT in the left-hand sidebar in the Glyph window, select “PTS” from the drop-down menu in the top-right hand corner of the window.

Step 3: Install

Click the Install button that appears in the middle of the screen, select where you wish to place the game and install.

Note: It may be easier to create your own folder and copy-paste the contents of your RIFT folder into this new PTS folder. That way you don’t have to download everything from scratch – you will only need to download the difference between your RIFT and PTS folder.

Transferring an Existing Char onto the PTS

If you want to transfer an existing character onto the PTS from your Live client, follow these steps.

Step 1: Log into your Live Client

Pretty straight-forward. Log into your Live Client, but don’t go past the character select screen.

Step 2: Click on Transfer

transferbutton

Click on the Transfer button at the bottom of the screen once you have selected the character you want to make a copy of to the PTS shard.

Step 3: Click on Copy to PTS

clickherecopypts

Click on the Copy to PTS button and follow the prompts. And you’re done! Simple! A copy of your character will now appear in the character select screen when you log into the PTS client.

Don’t worry, you won’t ‘lose’ or actually ‘transfer’ your Live character. This process simply makes an exact copy of your Live character onto the PTS. Nothing you do (except spending Credits on select items) on the PTS will affect your Live account.

Creating a New Char on the PTS

If you want to create a brand new character on the PTS, follow these steps.

Step 1: Log into your PTS Client

Log into your PTS Client via the PTS patcher. The login details requires are the same as your Live client.

Step 2: Click on Create

Click on the ‘Create’ button – just like when creating a new char on the Live client.

Step 3: Follow the Prompts

Follow the prompts for creating a new char – choose faction, race, class, name/etc. After you finish following the prompts you will be in the starting zone.

The Dummy Foundry – Overview

The Dummy Foundry on the PTS is where you go for all the main test packs – raid gear, consumes, large 36-slot bags, platinum as well as to parse on a whole slew of raid-buffed/debuffed dummies.

There are two types of Dummy Foundry instances:

  • Standard/Expert – This takes you to an instance where you will be raid-buffed automatically and all dummies are raid-debuffed. There’s trainers here as well as ‘Fluffy 2: The Fluffening’ NPC that gives Under-50 gear; a Level 50 potion; mount; PA XP.
  • Master – The Master Mode version of the instance has an NPC that sells end-game test gear and test items for upcoming features. Including Level 65 potion.

Accessing the Dummy Foundry

Step 1: Speak to Fluffy to port to your Home City

fluffypts

Firstly, if you create a new character, speak to the Fluffy NPC at the starting location to teleport to your faction’s home city. Otherwise skip this step.

Step 2: Change your Dungeon Difficulty

dungeondifficulty

You can change your dungeon difficulty by right-clicking your Character Portrait.

  • For new characters, you will not have Dungeon Difficulty in your Character Portrait so you will be ported to the Standard version of Dummy Foundry.
  • For Level 50+ characters, you will have Dungeon Difficulty. You can choose Standard, Expert or Master by right-clicking your Character Portrait. Choosing Standard/Expert takes you to the Level 50 NPC; choosing Master will take you to the Level 60+ NPC.

Step 3: Click on the Bear Trap

There’s a Bear Trap called “Dummy Foundry Teleport” close to Sanctum, Meridian and Tempest Bay’s Porticulum. Click on it to enter the Dummy Foundry instance after you have chosen which instance you want to go into (via dungeon difficulty; see Step 2).

  • Sanctum – The trap is right in front of the porticulum.
  • Meridian – The trap is in the middle of the courtyard near the porticulum.
  • Tempest Bay – The trap is behind the porticulum.

Step 4: Dummy Foundry (Standard/Expert)

If you choose Standard/Expert difficulty, you will enter a version of the Dummy Foundry with a ton of raid-debuffed dummies and your character will constantly get raid-buffed.

This place is great for doing raid-buffed parsing as there are a large variety of dummies, including physical and magic-dealing dummies for Tanks.

fluff2

  • Speak to ‘Fluffy 2: The Fluffening’.
  • Purchase Level 50 potion that will level you up to Level 50 if you need it (you’ll have to if you want to go into  the Master Mode version of the instance) and drink it (it’s in your inventory).
  • You can also buy other stuff like 36-slot bags, Mount and Planar Attunement XP crystals.

The Standard dungeon difficulty version of the instance also has an interactable lever near Fluffy that will give you 200,000 Conquest Power (although this no longer does anything).

Step 5: Exiting Dummy Foundry (Standard/Expert)

exitdummy50

You exit the Dummy Foundry (Standard/Expert) via the bear traps in the top-right area of the middle region of the instance as shown above.

  • Blue Trap = Sanctum
  • Yellow Trap = Tempest Bay
  • Red Trap = Meridian

Step 6: Dummy Foundry (Master)

If you are under 50, drink the Level 50 Potion bought from the Dummy Foundry (Standard/Expert) instance. This will allow you to have a new option called “Master” in your Dungeon Difficulty options when you right-click your Character Portrait.

If you are 50+ this should already be an option. Choose Master difficulty and click on the Bear Trap again to enter the new instance.

masterdummytraps

  • Speak to ‘Mr. SL Raid 1’ NPC.
  • He sells a Level 65 potion and Level 61-65 + Expert + Raid Test Gear for Nightmare Tide.
  • He will also usually hold any test packs for content currently being tested on the PTS.

Step 7: Exiting Dummy Foundry (Master)

You exit the Dummy Foundry (Master) via the bear traps right behind the NPC.

  • Blue Trap = Sanctum
  • Yellow Trap = Tempest Bay
  • Red Trap = Meridian

Hope this guide helps you get access to the PTS and everything you need to test stuff on the PTS!
