Reference List

Rift Reference List The Rift Reference List – for a quick reference to things you might want to quickly reconfirm.

Isn’t it annoying when you either don’t know something that nobody else in-game seems to be able to answer (or there’s multiple differing answers), or you just can’t remember where you saw something and have to spend a while trying to find evidence.

No more! This page will be constantly updated with new ‘reference’ material – stuff like currency caps; when world events start and finish/etc.

Stat Caps

Stat Soft Cap Hard Cap
Critical Power (CP) 3,120 (40%) 7,000+* (50%)
Attack Power/Spell Power (AP/SP) None None
Spell Crit/Physical Crit (SC/PC) 13,140 (45%) 60%
Block 8,138 (45%) 60%
Guard – Tier 1 2,369 (10%) 4,377 (12%)
Guard – Tier 2# 3,378 (10%) 3,904 (12%)
Guard – Tier 3^ 4,500 (10%) 5,700 (12%)
Dodge [r] None 10,845 (20%)
Mana None 17,000

*Crit Power Hard Cap needs verification. It might be somewhere around 5-7k+ although nobody is close to it yet to verify actual number. Crit Power Soft Cap is 3,120. Approx. 20% effectiveness after Soft Cap. You will want ~2,980 Crit Power prior to raid buffs and consumes to reach the soft cap. (Thanks to Soulshield and Muspel for the info!)

#You don’t start gaining any benefit from Guard for Tier 2 raids until 2,850 Guard. (Thanks to Lethaemis for the info!)

^’Standard starting value’ for Tier 3 Guard is 3,900 (5%). [r]

Max Planar Attunement (PA) – 1,427

Spell Crit/Physical Crit – After the 45% Soft Cap, each point above this cap gives 1/5th of the benefit that the stat gives prior to Soft Cap.

Block – Each point above the 45% Soft Cap gives 1/3rd of the benefit that the stat gives prior to Soft Cap.

Block mitigation – Fixed at 30%. This can increase with specific soul abilities.

Dodge – The chance to miss, parry or dodge are rolled independently.

Guard – A new stat introduced in Nightmare Tide that reduces damage received to any party/raid members who are within a certain radius of that player. When there’s more than one player with Guard in their gear, the highest Guard rating will be applied.

Caps for Guard are based on content Tier:

  • Tier 1: After soft cap of 10% at 2,365 Guard, each point thereafter gives 20% of original value.
  • Tier 2: You do not get any benefit from the stat until 2,850 Guard when dealing with Tier 2 raid mobs/bosses. Soft cap is 3,378 (10%). Hard cap of 3904 (12%).
  • Tier 3: Standard starting Guard for T3 is 3,900 (5%). Soft cap is 4,500 (10%). Hard cap is 5,700 (12%). [r]

(Thanks to Lethaemis for the Tier 2 Guard info!)

HIT – HIT is used to negate the caster’s innate chance to Miss for both Spell and Non-Spell attacks, and the defender’s chance to Dodge for non-spell attacks. It does not reduce the defender’s non-physical mitigation.

Resist – Only reduces damage taken from non-physical attacks. Does not give a chance to resist/avoid a spell attack.

Mana – Mana is increased with INT/WIS. Mana is capped at 17,000. However, abilities and consumables that directly increase mana can push you past this cap.

Mana Regeneration – This is based on player level. WIS/INT does not affect mana regeneration.

Health Points – Max HP is increased by 10 for every point of endurance. This can increase further based on soul abilities/talents.

Pets – Pets do not inherit STR/DEX/WIS/INT from their owner. They instead inherit all their derived stats such as AP/SP/Resist/Armor from their owner.

Weapon DPS – When comparing Dual-wield 1Hs or a 2H for Warriors and Rogues, take the Weapon DPS of your 1H in your main hand and multiply by 1.3 to get the comparable 2H DPS.

Always place the weapon with the highest DPS on your main hand if you are dual-wielding as the off-hand only counts its stats, not its weapon DPS.

Deflect/Parry/Toughness – No longer exists in the Nightmare Tide expansion.

*Platinum cap – If you don’t have a minimum of 1,500 Loyalty, you’ll be capped at 5,000 Platinum [r]. (don’t worry, chances are extremely high you won’t hit this cap unless you are trying to sell an extremely lucky Level 60 Epic Greater Essences drop prior to getting your first REX). [r] There’s no other unique currency caps for those with less than 1,500 Loyalty.

Besides the Platinum cap for those with less than 1,500 Loyalty, the rest of the caps above are the same for all players. [r]

The platinum transfer limit when transferring your character/s to another shard is 3 plat for every level up to level 40 (so 120 plat at Level 40). Once your character is above Level 40, there is no limit to how much platinum you can transfer to another shard. [r] (Note that your character needs to be min. Level 15 to transfer to another shard).

4. Crafting

  • Default key for Crafting window is “,“.
  • You can purchase most Recipes and all Reagents from the RIFT Store -> Crafting section. Be sure to check filters when viewing Reagents for professions you haven’t trained.
  • Trade Skill Extension. You can have more than the default 3 crafting/gathering professions by obtaining Trade Skill Extensions found under RIFT Store -> Crafting. You can extend up to 10 times.
  • Aventurine – Crafting material gained from 8hr and 10hr Minion Adventures. Default Minion window hotkey is “v”.

5. Auction House Fees

Auction House fees are as follows:

  • Seller gets charged a Listing Fee upon creation of an auction listing. This Listing Fee will be returned to the Seller if his listing gets sold. Otherwise if the auction expires the auction house keeps the fee.
  • Seller gets charged a Sale Fee upon the successful sale of an auction listing.
  • Buyer does not get charged a fee for buying items listed on the auction house..
  • For Buy Orders: Buy Orders are different – the buyer (person creating the Buy Order) gets charged a non-refundable fee. The seller (person fulfilling a Buy Order) does not get charged a fee.

Listing Fees

Listing Fees are charged when you list an item on the auction house.

  • 0.5% of Listing Price for 12hr duration;
  • 1.5% of Listing Price for 48hr duration; or
  • 3.5% of Listing Price for 7 Day duration.

If your auction item successfully sells, the Listing Price is returned to you. It shows up in your mail as “+ Deposit”. If your auction item expires before it can be sold, the auction house keeps your Listing Fee.

Sale Fee

If your auction successfully sells, you will be charged a Sale Fee that is automatically deducated from your earnings.

  • 5% Sale Fee on Sale Price.

The Sale Fee shows up in your mail as “- Fee”.

Below you can see an example of this in the mail you get sent upon a successful sale:

RIFT Auction House Fees Explained

RIFT Auction House Fees Explained

Buy Order Fee

The Buy Order Fee is for creating a Buy Order under the “Create Buy Order” tab.

  • 5% of ‘Buyout Price – Total’ regardless of duration. 12hr, 48hr and 7 day duration Buy Orders all cost a 5% non-refundable fee.

6. PvP-related

PvP no longer has its own PvP currency outside of Favor. It uses the same gear as PvE and thus also uses the same currency.

  • Default key to access PvP window is “K“.
  • All healing is reduced in PvP by 85%.
  • AoE Damage and Healing is reduced in PvP.
  • Gaining Prestige Ranks past Rank 40 now grants 500,000 PA exp per level. [r]
  • There is no ‘PvP’ gear. Instead you use general gear and receive bolstering if your gear is less than the ‘bolster floor’ stats, or your stats are reduced if it is higher than the ‘bolster ceiling’. Currently Tier 1 Relic raid gear is bolstered down to Tier 1 Epic raid gear.
  • Vengeance and Valor (PvP Stats) no longer exist since Nightmare Tide.

How Does Match-Making Work?

The matchmaker will match teams based on several factors: [r]

  • Team Size
  • Relative total Elo Rating
  • No. of Healers
  • No. of DPS
  • If possible, matching same number of Premades per team.

How Does Elo Rating Work?

Elo Rating is a rating system based on your wins and losses. [r]

  • If you win a match, your Elo rating goes up. If you lose a match, your Elo rating goes down.
  • How much your Elo rating goes up/down depends on your team’s total Elo rating vs the other team’s total Elo rating. If you win against a team with a higher Elo rating than your own team, your Elo rating will go up more. Likewise, if you lose to a higher Elo rated team, your Elo rating will go down less than against an equal team.

You and your team’s Elo rating will then help match players to your team and the opposing team during a Warfront match.

How Does Favor Work?

How is favor gained in RIFT? If you’re wondering why there might be such a huge difference between your favor and somebody elses favor on the Warfront Scoreboard, it usually has to do with them turning in their Random Warfront Daily Rewards – those get included in the Scoreboard.

However, if you’re looking for other reasons, or want to know how to gain more favor, read on!

  • Firstly, Favor Boosts and Patron passive boosts will increase a player’s favor gain compared to another player. Same with the Passive Guild Perk: Foe Hunter (Increases Favor rewards by 3%/6%/9%).
  • All rewards (not just favor) are suppressed if you spend more than 1 min inside the starting areas of a Warfront or Conquest. Leaving this area will allow you to regain rewards after a short moment. [r]

Warfront Announcer – You can change the Warfront Announcer (that makes calls like “First Blood”, “Juggernaut”, “Invincible”) via the Warfront scoreboard. It appears as a drop-down at the bottom of the window.

RIFT Warfront Announcer Toggle

Upgrading Gear Gained in PvP

You gain Marauder Supply Caches each time you win a warfront in RIFT: Nightmare Tide. You use Favor Infused Accelerators gained from the RIFT Store -> Equipment -> Upgrade Parts section with favor to upgrade gear that drops from the Marauder Supply Caches.

Gear Drop Rate

Marauder Supply Caches currently have a 50% chance of dropping gear. [r]

Crowd Control Effects in PvP [r]

CC effects used against players in PvP have what is known as ‘diminishing returns’.

  • 1st CC effect has full duration. When it ends, the target has immunity for the same period of time as the duration of the CC.

Here’s how it works:
If you pop an 8sec CC on a player and:

  • a. They decide to not break out of the CC. It lasts 8secs. They get an 8sec immunity to CC afterwards.
  • b. They decide to break out with Break Free immediately. It only lasted 1sec. They get an 8sec immunity to CC afterwards. (Break Free gives them a 5sec CC immunity buff itself, but the normal immunity lasts for 8secs total).
  • c. They decide to break out with a non-Break Free ability immediately. It only lasted 1sec. They get an 8sec immunity to CC afterwards.

If you pop an 3sec CC on a player and:

  • a. They decide to not break out of the CC. It lasts 3secs. They get a 3sec immunity to CC afterwards.
  • b. They decide to break out with Break Free immediately. It only lasted 1sec. They get a 3sec immunity to CC afterwards, but Break Free also gives a 5sec CC immunity buff. Therefore they have a 5sec CC immunity.
  • c. They decide to break out with a non-Break Free ability immediately. It only lasted 1sec. They get a 3sec immunity to CC afterwards.

Bolstering

Bolstering works by checking each slot of gear you have equipped, comparing it to the lowest bolstered stats. If your gear is less powerful, its stats will be replaced with the bolstered stats.

  • Synergy Crystals, Trinkets and Seals are excluded from Bolstering.
  • If you don’t have anything in a slot (i.e. it’s empty), it won’t be Bolstered.

Dueling and Open World PvP is not bolstered.

Bolstering Ceiling

There’s also a bolstering down system that applies a ceiling to how much stats you can have in PvP. This prevents relic’d out raiders from having vastly better stats than pure pvpers. If your gear is more powerful than the highest stats allowed for PvP, its stats will be bolstered down to the highest stat allowed for PvP.

Currently the highest stats allowed are Epic Tier 1 Raid gear purchased from the RIFT Store that PvPers are able to obtain through normal play. Relic Tier 1 Raid gear is bolstered down – this includes Relic Tier 1-equivalent essences.

This includes Tier 1 Epic Weapons so pure PvPers will probably end up with lower stats than players who raid.

Attack Distances [r]

Trion added in an ‘Attack Distance’ increase when certain conditions are met to help melee players maintain dps on their target:

  • Attack Distance is increased by 1m if target is jumping while in PvP combat.
  • Attack Distance is increased by 1.5m if both the attacker and the target are moving while in PvP combat.

Conquest

  • Conquest Points and Perks have been completely removed from the game since Nightmare Tide.
  • CQ: Stillmoor – Objective is to gain extractors by dpsing them down and standing on them. Getting 67% of extractors on the map, or reaching 0 kills left will start a 5min timer. Whichever faction has the most extractors by the end of the 5min timer will win.
  • CQ: Steppes of Infinity – Objective is to gain points by picking up sourcestones from the middle of one of the Forts and using a reactive to deposit it at extractors in the other Fort. First faction to 5000 points starts a 5min timer. The faction with the most points at the end wins.
  • Conquest Chests. At the end of the 5min timers in both maps, a Chest will appear for the winning (or tied) faction/s. If you are on the winning (or tied) faction, you can click on this Chest for a random chance at currency or relic upgrade components. The Chest is in the center of the map (Eye of Regulos) in Stillmoor and will appear at the center of both Forts in Steppes of Infinity.
    • Note that there’s an invisible 15min debuff that is applied when you loot the CQ chest that prevents you from looting it again. It will only count down when your character is online. [r]

  • Maximum of 20 Active Dimensions per character.
  • Guild Dimensions are bought from the Guild window (default key “g“) -> Dimensions tab.

8. Instant Adventure

The Instant Adventure default key is “.” (full stop key).

Instant Adventure Caches

Tacitus has revealed that you have a small chance of obtaining an Instant Adventure Cache during a normal adventure, and an 100% chance of obtaining one after completing a ‘rare’ (boss/defend) adventure. Averages out at about one cache every 6 adventures. [r]

  • 100% chance on a boss adventure. [r]
  • 5% chance on a non-boss adventure. [r]

Commendation of Renown

Commendations of Renown are gained from Instant Adventure Caches by completing IAs. Approx. 3-7 per Adventure Cache. These can be turned in at various NPCs for notoriety and plat:

  • Tacitus the Elder at Flargle Plaza, Draumheim. /setwaypoint 5476 5589. [Location]
  • Tacitus the Elder in Tempest Bay. /setwaypoint 13106 11518. [Location]
  • Sergeant Deucer in Sanctum. /setwaypoint 7403 2960. [Location]
  • Optio Lyis in Meridian. /setwaypoint 6174 5148. [Location]

9. Artifacts

2 Types of Spawn Points

There are both Rare and Common spawn points. There are about 20-25% as many Rare spawn points as Common ones.

Common Spawn Point

  • The Common spawn points gives a chance at common (white), uncommon (green) and rare (blue) artifacts with smaller % chances of obtaining them the higher the rarity.
  • These Common spawn points will never give you an Epic (purple) artifact.
  • Common spawn points are in areas that are easy to reach (by the roadside/etc).

Rare Spawn Point

  • The Rare spawn points give a chance at uncommon (green), rare (blue) or epic (purple) artifacts with smaller % chances of obtaining them the higher the rarity.
  • You will never find a common (white) artifact in this type of spawn point.
  • Rare spawn points are in out-of-the-way/hard-to-reach locations.

Artifact Spawning

There are a large amount of possible spawn points for artifacts in each zone and at any one time a percentage of those spawn points will have artifacts spawned.

  • When an artifact is harvested, another empty spawn point will then spawn an artifact.
  • As time goes by – the easier artifacts tend to get harvested quickly and there ends up being a mass of artifacts that go unharvested in hard-to-reach locations.

Unstable Zone Events

Zone Events trigger based on player population. There is an ‘optimal’ amount of players for each zone event and the zone event system attempts to trigger events based on that ‘optimal’ level of players.

  • The Unstable Zone Events require less players to trigger than other events.
  • Thus, you will get more Unstable Zone Events during lower population times (because higher-pop tends to trigger other zone events).

Unstable Artifacts

Information about Unstable Artifacts can be obtained from the Unstable Artifacts Guide.

Poison/Burning/Nightmare Artifacts

Poison, Burning and Nightmare artifacts are only available in the Level 65 Planetouched Wilds (“PTW)” zone in Mathosia. These artifacts require special Sights to see:

  • Picking up normal artifacts in PTW gives you chance at receiving the Poison Sight buff that allows you to see Poison Artifacts for 15m.
  • Picking up poison artifacts in PTW gives you a chance at receiving the Burning Sight buff that allows you to see Burning Artifacts for 10m.
  • Picking up burning artifacts in PTW gives you a chance at receiving the Nightmare Sight buff that allows you to see Nightmare Artifacts for 5m.
  • Picking up nightmare artifacts in PTW gives you a chance of refreshing all three Sight buffs.

Each Poison/Burning/Nightmare Sight buff will also deal damage over time to you, so it is advised to have at least some kind of self-heals with you when hunting for the PTW artifacts.

Required to sell on the AH. You need 1,500 Loyalty on your account to unlock this. A single REX (that gives 1,250 Credits) will give you 2,500 Loyalty when you convert it to Credits. [r]

Annual World Events/Events Times

Annual World Events occur on a yearly basis.

  • Arclight Infiltration – Offering Lifter Mounts like the Arclight Lifter and Storm Legion Lifter mounts.

  • Unicornalia – Offering Unicorn Mounts like the Opal and Onyx Unicorn Mounts.

Referral Rewards

Rift’s Ascend-a-Friend Referral System provides Referral Rewards that you can purchase with Referral Coins at Rift Store -> Referral Rewards.

  • You gain 500 Referral Coins for every $20 in Credits your referrals purchase.
  • You gain the Referral Coins as soon as they purchase Credits with money, not when they spend the Credits.
  • You do not gain any Referral Coins from referrals who consume a REX item in-game to gain Credits.

Loyalty

Loyalty is gained from purchasing and spending Credits.

  • You gain 2 Loyalty for every 1 Credit you gain.
  • You gain 2 Loyalty for every 1 Credit you spend.

Some special conditions to note though:

  • Purchasing REX via plat or real money will not gain you any loyalty.
  • You must consume the REX to get the ‘Credit gain’ portion of loyalty. (So you get 2,500 Loyalty for consuming REX).
  • When Gifting, the Gifter (person gifting the item) gets the ‘Credit spend’ portion of loyalty. The person receiving the gift will not receive any loyalty.

There are ‘Mini Rewards’ as you earn loyalty that you can see in your loyalty bar. Once you fill up a Loyalty Tier, you get the major rewards. All rewards are account-wide for existing and new characters.

Loyalty Tiers:

Below you can find how much loyalty is required to fill each tier.

  • Green Tier – 30,000 Loyalty
  • Blue Tier – 90,000 Loyalty
  • Purple Tier – 180,000 Loyalty
  • Orange Tier – 600,000 Loyalty
  • Red Tier – 1,200,000 Loyalty
  • Black Tier – 2,800,000 Loyalty
  • Silver Tier – 4,100,000 Loyalty

The above amounts are to fill up each tier. You need the previous tier’s loyalty to start the new tier. I.e., the actual amounts of loyalty you need to go from 0 loyalty to a tier are:

  • Green Tier – 30,000 Loyalty
  • Blue Tier – 120,000 Loyalty
  • Purple Tier – 300,000 Loyalty
  • Orange Tier – 900,000 Loyalty
  • Red Tier – 2,100,000 Loyalty
  • Black Tier – 4,900,000 Loyalty
  • Silver Tier – 9,000,000 Loyalty

Future Loyalty Tiers:

RIFT will still continue to track your loyalty even when you hit the current maximum amount of loyalty. This means that if Trion decides to introduce additional loyalty tiers to the game, the loyalty you have gained past the previous maximum will count towards the new maximum. [r]

Extended Bag Search Commands

The following are quick commands you can use when searching for specific items in your bag:

  • /d to see all dimension items. (/dimension works too).
  • /c to show all crafting items. Ingredients, Goods and Materials.
  • /u or /usable which will show all usable/consumable items.
  • /w or /wardrobe which will highlight all wardrobe/costume items.

Bonus Stacking

Vladd has made a thorough post about bonus stacking here. This concerns bonuses to experience currency, tokens, favor, prestige gain/etc.

Mount Dancing

You can type /mountdance whilst on a Lifter mount to dance on the mount. Only you can see yourself dancing.
